Introduction: Recognizing the identity of people based on determining their height is very important, especially in cases where it becomes very difficult to recognize the identity in certain circumstances. In this study, anthropological criteria were used to determine the height of people in the adult population.
Methods: In this study, which was conducted as an analytical and cross-sectional study, a number of 98 healthy adult corpses between the ages of 18 and 40 years in Ahvaz city were examined in 2019. The required findings were recorded by a forensic expert. The most important of these findings included the length and width of hands and height of people, and the mean ± standard deviation was included as the measurement range in the population. Also, the relationship between the recorded values was analyzed with the help of statistical tests in SPSS software version 25.
Results: Most of the subjects were male (73.5%) and were in the age range of 31 to 40 years (with an average age of 29.31 and a standard deviation of 6.69 years). Based on the findings obtained from the study, it was found that there is a positive and significant correlation between hand length and hand width of people (P>0.05; r>0.7>0.4). Also, after estimating a significant model, the obtained regression equation for predicting people's height was obtained. The range of the standard error of prediction was in the range of 0.719 to 2.007 cm with an average of 1.17 and a standard deviation of 0.343.
Conclusion: Hand dimension criteria (hand length and width) can be used to estimate people's height. The reported regression equation can be used to estimate the height of people based on the above criteria in the field of forensic anthropometry. |
