Rules Governing the Liability of Dentists in Iran

Background: In spite of the numerous advancements in diagnosis and treatment of the disease, today, lodging files against dentists is increasing. Population growth, social awareness growth, and growing number of physicians, as well as implementation of lawyers and legal advisers are among the reason for such complains. In this study, we tried to get information to dentists on concept and principals of medical malpractice, new and old Islamic Punishment Law, criticism of these laws and statistics of malpractice in the courts . Methods: Disciplinary penalties or punishments consisted primarily of compensation. Technical and scientific standards in diagnosis and treatment is the most important criterion in the evaluation of dental complaints are referred to courts and law enforcement staff. Conclusion: Increasing knowledge of dentists about medical university and special office law can perform important roles on relationships between dentists and their patients based on legal terms, and has important role in prevention of the medical malpractice.
